| The show | What I like | Future expectations |
|---|---|---|
| The Amazing Digital Circus | This show gives me an existential crisis with its soundtrack full of whimsy and desperation. The characters are all set up as one dimensional, but the cracks seep through. | I want this show to make me wonder about the meaning of life and what happiness truly looks like |
| Knights of Guinevere | There are so many layers to this: corporate greed, pollution, sexualization of children's media, and dreams. This show understands that nothing is black and white, but that ultimately nothing is fair. People who say this is only about Disney completely miss the point. This is Dana telling every single mega company to get themselves together. The animation is beautiful, it leans into that childhood aesthetic that many people yearn for, even the slightly gory scenes are visually stunning. The main characters are extremely compelling. An overall win for 2D animation. | I just want this show to be rooted into what it is trying to say. Dana is a fantastic storyteller and I have zero doubt that this could be one of the best series ever produced if given the resources. I am so excited it got greenlit and I can't wait for more. |
| Gaslight District | This show has an amazing visual style; to me it is reminiscent of Laika studios mixed in with gorgeous 2D animation. It is extremely fluid and it never feels overwhelming. I love found family trope and I love to see the relationship between all of them, specially Melancholy and Ken's daddy-daughter bond. The music in this is heavenly- that choir made me ascend. | While I am extremely excited for this, I can see this being a really bloated show. That's my only scare, because everything else is absolutely phenomenal and the mystery is extremely intriguing. |
| Anjail | Does this even count as a show? Whatever, I want to talk about it. The art style is incredibly edible and sharp. The color theory in this is beautiful, colors contrast and are vibrant but it never feels like too much. The main character is morally ambigous which I love. The fact that it is interactive just elevates the experience. I love our main antagonist: cunning, deceiving, and manipulative. The voices in this are fantastic and I kid you not; I had not laughed so hard in a while. This show is magnificent, and I really hope it gets more traction. Also creating a language is just delightful, the attention to detail goes above and beyond. | I hope they keep the morally ambigous character actually ambigous. A lot of the time they end up leaning towards one side more. This is such a tasty show and I really don't know how this could go wrong. |
| Pretty please I don't want to be a magical girl | This show is so, so, so charming. I grew up with Precure and Card Captor Sakura, and this show does everything they do and it elevates it by subverting expectations without mocking its roots. The main antagonist is so funny, I hope they keep his little gag up. The girls are so different, yet I adore them equally. Everything in this show looks so squishable, it's like a sweet dessert at dusk. Everything about this show is hilarious, I am not going to lie. This has so much potential and I want five seasons right now. I really hope this series keeps going. | I want this show to have some real stakes, and it seems like there will be with the proper introduction we got in episode 2. I want the relationship of the girls to be explored more, they make an amazing duo. Ironically enough, I want them to lean a teensy bit more into the magical girl side of the equation. Just a tad. And honestly, I hope this gets colored one day. This is not an expectation as animation is hard enough as it is, being time consuming and extremely expensive. However, I know this show could look even more scrumptious if it was painted in. Still, I'll be extremely happy with whatever we get though. |
The list will be updated with more examples, I've just yet to watch more shows.
